Breakfast Sammich!

Updated: Jun 20, 2019

I made this at home. It was delicious. That is all. Ok, fine, the recipe is below.

“What's in it?!” - Everyone who sees this photo

Ingredients:

1 Egg

1 tbsp (approx) minced Shallots

1-4 slices Ham

2 slices Bread (Rye, Milton's or Dave's Killer Bread, preferably)

1 dab Butter

2 drips Peanut Oil (or like a teaspoon, whatever)

1 healthy slice Cheddar Cheese (preferably Tillamook)

1 ounce Cold Water or Almond Milk

Also required:

1 Modern Oven Appliance

1 Pyrex Dish (alt: aluminum foil)

1 Small Mixing Bowl

1 Fork for Mixing

Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees.

So I have a Pyrex dish that's pretty much the exact size of a piece of bread. If you don't have one of those just make a bread-sized flat-bottom boat out of foil that you can place on a cookie sheet. (Fun Fact: A random tupperware container can be used as a mold)

I add a dab of butter and a bit of peanut oil (higher burning temp than olive oil) to prep the inside for some serious egg baking. Make sure to get up around the sides, the egg will rise.

Toss a small pile of minced shallots into the dish along with some chopped ham (I also crack some black pepper on there).

Bake the ham/shallots for about 2 minutes to take the stank off the shallots and the chill off the ham.

Scramble one egg in a bowl with an ounce of cold water or almond milk, which I prefer.

Pull out the hot dish, pour the egg over the hot ham and shallots and bake for 6 to 10 minutes, until the surface of the egg looks firm.

Add a sprinkle of a seasoned salt or your desired flavor booster and lay a slice of cheddar cheese across the top before popping it back into the oven (which you can turn off now) for about 1 minute.

Throw your bread in the toaster and hopefully it will pop up just after that 1 minute timer goes off.

Remove the dish from the oven, being careful not to bang it on the counter, that can startle the eggs like when you startle a cake and it drops...I dunno, cakes don't like to be startled or something, I'm not a baker...yet.

Slather some butter or mayo or whatever you like on the bread and use a spatula to scoop your egg and ham block out of the dish and onto your toasty toast. Mmmmmm. Toast.

Slice diagonally because WE'RE NOT CAVE PEOPLE!

The Breakdown:

That's it. Just go make this thing. Surprise your better half with one on a Sunday morning or just spoil yourself on a weekday. Seriously, why are you still reading this?
