In my teenage years, while others began their life-long attempt to act like adults and started drinking coffee, I was still a hot chocolate kid. Thinking about it right now, I guess I'm still a kid haha.
However, with age does come a desire to function properly, maybe even daily, and that sometimes requires coffee. We do all grow up eventually, womp womp.
I've been making this drink at home for years. It's not groundbreaking or anything, but the fact that Starbutts hasn't picked up on it, trademarked the term and made the Hot Choffee the "new mocha" is beyond me.
There are a couple easy ways of doing this, and believe me, it's way better than a mocha and more soul-warming than a simple cup of Joe. In regards to the hot chocolate, I'm working with the modern packets of powder here...I'm not melting cocoa into milk in a double boiler or anything that involves actual work.
How to make a Hot Choffee:
1. Make a hot chocolate. Pour a bit of coffee in it. Boom, done.
2. Make a coffee. Put half or an entire packet of pre-sweetened powdered hot chocolate mix in it. Stir. Boom, done.
I add milk because the fats help bring all the elements together, I discovered almond milk tends to taste burnt in a hot beverage because wittle baby almonds can't handle the heat!
I'm currently working with a k-cup machine for coffee (yes, I know) so I've worked out a routine that works best for my present setup.
Heather will make a coffee in the morning but when I go to make my coffee, instead of throwing out her used k-cup, I open and close the hatch and just run 12oz of hot water through the used coffee pack (currently Tullys Hawaiian Blend) into my Year Of The Rooster cup with a pack of hot chocolate powder in it along with one packet of Splenda. With that much water/coffee mixed with the hot chocolate (calls for 8oz) it needs that little kick of extra sweetness.
The Breakdown:
Try it. Go make one. Maybe wait until tomorrow morning. But enjoy life, yo.
(*When Starbutts steals this idea, this post will my golden ticket)
